1) What do you mean by G P Rating?
Ans: It stands for General Purpose Rating means crew in merchant navy ships
2) What is the duration of course period?
Ans- Six months
3) Who is the regulating authority of the course

4) Is your institute is under any Govt ?
Ans- No we are an self financed, non profit making autonomous institute
5) What are the criteria for admission?
Ans-
Pass in 10th Standard from a recognized Board ( See IGNOU website for list of unrecognized board) with pass in subjects of science and mathematics and English having minimum aggregate percentage 40% and with 40% mark in English. if you do not have 40% in English in 10th standard then 40% in English in 12th standard is acceptable.
6) Is these criteria is set by your Institute?
Ans- NO, This is set by Director General of Shipping for all the G P Rating Institute to follows. No institute can alter these criteria.
7) Can a student with above criteria be guaranteed of admission?
Ans- No, Our selection will be based on merit list i.e on basis of percentage of marks obtained in 10th Standard followed by general English test and viva voce.
8) Do you accept any donation?
Ans- Strictly NO. We even do not like any one coming through any agent or middleman. If it is known that any one is coming for admission through any agent or middleman, he or she may face disqualification. Our institute is meant for poor students who can not afford training elsewhere.
9) Does a candidate have to do any other courses alongwith G P Rating Course.
Ans- YES, Five modular courses called STCW courses are to be completed during this six month course period, either with this institute or with some other institute at an extra cost by the candidate.
10) Is there any LEAVE granted by your Academy?
Ans- NO, Only in extreme emergency case.
11) Who conducts final examination?
Ans- Board of Education for Seafarers (BES), Mumbai. Examination is conducted in three parts viz: Written, Orals and Practical by external examiners. The minimum pass mark is 60% in each.
11) What is CDC ?
Ans- It stands for Continuous Discharge Certificate. It is a Seaman’s Identity book required for any seaman to work on board a ship.

12) How can the institute help in getting CDC?
Ans_ Before taking admission, the candidate must verify from DG Shipping web site whether any institute is approved or not. Doing course from an approved institute can make a candidate eligible to be issued with CDC if he has fulfilled all criteria. Upon passing final examination, the candidate applies for CDC through the institute. The institute only recommends and forwards the application to Shipping Master Mumbai. It is not the liability of this institute to issue you CDC as it has no power to issue CDC. So the responsibility lies with the candidates whether he or she has provided true and correct information at the time of admission. |
